Lake Pape is located in the South-western part of Latvia along the Baltic coast close to the border with Lithuania. The whole area is made up of a complex mosaic of habitats of European importance ranging from coastal lagoons, natural forests, active raised bogs, to coastal meadows, species rich grasslands, calcareous fens and coastal dunes. It is also strategically situated along the main Western Palearctic migratory flyway.
The project wants to tackle the numerous threats to the Lake Pape region in a strategic and coordinated way. A close partnership between the WWF and the two local municipalities of the region thereby creating a sustainable long term institutional framework for the management of the Lake Pape Nature Park.
